I remember my mother's prayers and they have always
followed me. They have clung to me all my life.

CoolHolidays
Cinco de Mayo
The holiday of Cinco de
Mayo is primarily a
regional holiday in
Mexico, celebrated in
the state of Puebla.
There is some limited
recognition of the
holiday in other parts
of the country. For the
most part the
celebrations combine
food, music and dancing.
In the United States,
Cinco de Mayo has taken
on a significance beyond
that in Mexico. The date
is perhaps best
recognized in the United
States as a date to
celebrate the culture
and experiences of
Americans of Mexican
ancestry, much as St.
Patrick's Day,
Oktoberfest, and the
Chinese New Year are
used to celebrate those
of Irish, German, and
Chinese ancestry
respectively.

Mother's Day
The United States
celebrates Mother's Day
on the second Sunday in
May. In the United
States, Mother's Day was
loosely inspired by the
British day and was
imported by social
activist Julia Ward Howe
after the American Civil
War. However, it was
intended as a call to
unite women against war.
In 1870, she wrote the
Mother's Day
Proclamation as a call
for peace and
disarmament. Howe failed
in her attempt to get
formal recognition of a
Mother's Day for Peace.
